SourceCraft Has Returned!

SourceCraft has returned! New server IP 108.61.203.248:27085
July 22 2017 – -=|JFH|=-REVENANT

Well, it has returned… SourceCraft! The mod developed by -=|JFH|=-Naris, that so many players lovingly referred to as “SourceCrack” because of its addictive game play. Currently, Naris is hard at work bring all the races back up to date. If you’ve played it before, c’mon back, and if you havn’t you will love it.

First of all, what is SourceCraft?

SourceCraft is a modification of Team Fortress 2, although it can be applied to other games as well. It is based largely on StarCraft 1 and 2 Universe, with a few exceptions. It does not directly modify any of the core game mechanics or classes, but instead allows players to choose a race to augment the class they are playing with new and enhanced abilities. For example, some races have movement rate improvements which allow them to run faster or increase damage output, and some add damage absorption (armor). Others add completely new abilities, such as a grappling hook or a jetpack. No one race is the best and each player must decide what fits their play-style the best.

Next, how do you play?

As mentioned, all classes are unmodified, which means when a player joins for the first time, they play their chosen class as they would on a normal TF2 server. As they play, they gain Experience points and Crystals which allows them to level up to a new race and spend their crystals to augment their race abilities. Most upgrades work for any chosen class, though some have restrictions which are typically stated in the ability or are obvious. For example, one race has an ability that allows a medic to charge the uber faster. Obviously, that ability does not effect any other class, while damage enhancers will help with every class. Also certain upgrades require energy that automatically accumulates over time.

SourceCraft, in all its glory, does a lot of unusual and unexpected things. Some engineers can carry their built functioning sentry guns while firing, some spies can run as fast as a scout and cloak for a lot longer than normal, and medics often charge ubers quicker. Just about anything can happen. You have been warned!

Although the mod is up and running , -=|JFH|=-Naris is still in the process of fine tuning it, so you may see some changes while the process continues. Any obvious issues or glitches may be reported on our website in the appropriate forum topic.

The FunHouse hopes everyone enjoys the SourceCraft Mod which almost certainly will bring an enhancement to your gaming experience.

Modders are angry at Valve’s recent handling of Dota 2

Allegedly Valve is paying out less

Going back as far as the ’90s, there has been a small collective of modders in the community that either have a successful side hustle, or a full-time gig providing content on top of what the development team already offers. Valve is pretty much the perfect mark, as they have a built-in audience of millions and facilitate that content creator/overlord relationship, but that’s changing with Dota 2, and people aren’t happy about it.

Over on reddit one post is getting a lot of traction. The chief allegation is that Valve is paying out less cash for items that are sold on their marketplace, and haven’t told people ahead of time that the change would take place. Originally that involved getting a 25% cut, but that changed to 12.5% (with a 12.5% cut for Battle Passes), and now, supposedly 12.5% across the board without concessions for passes.

Another issue is that Valve has made the space even more crowded with this cut, so people are competing like crazy to make ends meet. Content creators also state that immortal items ruin the market, as players who obtain immortal items (including Axe players, who has an immortal in every equippable slot) won’t buy anything else. In case you were wondering, yes some folks make a living off of these mods, so this alteration has been pretty life-changing for them.

Even if you aren’t remotely interested in Dota 2, MOBAs, or skin economies, the entire breakdown is a fascinating read. We’ve reached out to Valve for comment and will update if we hear anything back.

TF2 MvM Needs a New Challenge

I totally agree with this article.  Time to bring back the Fun!

MvM is stagnated

It is too easy, it isn’t fun, chances are you will lose money, you will meet trolls, you will meet lousy players, you will get frustrated. All for playing the same things over and over again. If I wanted items to come at random, I would buy crates and keys. At least I don’t have to play 2-3 hours of some boring, overplayed game before getting the drops.

MvM has a lot of potential, but the lack of new content makes it ridiculously easy and boring – and Valve doesn’t even try to release new challenges. Instead of creating expert (or harder) missions, we are back to Advanced with 2 Cities and Mecha, and that’s how it looks like things will be from now on (when we get 1 update every 1 year or so).

Nowadays, the metagame is all about finishing missions quickly, which makes everything even more boring. Build ubercharge on the sentrybuster? Check. Give all the crits to the demo? Check. Giants instantly destroyed by demo or spy? Check. Tank and crap bots are too easy, making everyone else’s job really irrelevant and boring? Check check check.

I really miss the time where most of my team had no idea what to do and neither did I. That was when MvM was new and fun. I have no idea what it is now – it can hardly be called a game, and it is certainly not entertaining.

The worst part is: MvM will never have a chance of renewing itself with community made maps, because people only play it for aussies. So even if someone creates a fun, different, amazing new map, no one will play it unless Valve adds it to the official servers and puts some kind of item reward alongside a mission. And, since Valve never does that and very rarely releases new maps themselves, well, MvM will hardly ever become fun & challenging again.

No Man’s Sky?

‘No Man’s Sky’ developers promise to ‘expand the universe’ in future updates

By Jacob Siegal on Sep 5, 2016 at 9:05 PM
No Man's Sky UpdatesImage Source: Hello Games

All the hype in the world couldn’t save No Man’s Sky from the inevitable backlash. In fact, the hype is exactly why many gamers are disappointed in the final product — a game that somehow manages to become repetitive despite the fact that it offers a nearly limitless universe with 18 quintillion planets to explore.

Thankfully, the developers aren’t done with it yet.

Ever since launch, developer Hello Games has been pumping out patches at a fairly rapid pace. Regardless of whether players liked the game or not, there were some major bugs and glitches that needed fixing, which is why Hello Games has hired a community management team and released four patches a piece for both PC and PS4 since the game launched on August 9th.

The game is now significantly more stable than it was a month ago, but despite the fact that the latest patch has fixed 90% of the crash issues, Hello Games isn’t going to stop working on No Man’s Sky any time soon.

“What matters now, as always, is what we do rather than what we say,” said the dev team in a recent blog post. “We’re developers, and our focus is first on resolving any issues people have with the game as it is, then on future free updates which will improve, expand and build on the No Man’s Sky universe.”

Managing director Sean Murray said in a post regarding the launch day patch that the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters would be coming soon, so once the bugs are all patched, the new features can begin rolling in.

Valve VAC bans TF2 hack users, pro players caught

By Tom Sykes 12 days ago

LMAOBOX finally detected by Valve’s anti-cheat software.

LMAOBOX is a program designed to allow players to cheat at Team Fortress 2, for instance by adding automatic aiming or removing weapon recoil. Somehow – until now at least – it’s managed to pass under the radar of Valve’s VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) technology, but LMAOBOX has finally been detected, despite claims on the website that it was VAC-proof. And with the detection, comes a wave of VAC bans. It’s not clear exactly how many people have been affected, but it includes nearly 170 professional players in the TF2 UGC league. Here’s a full list of the competitive players affected, in a Google doc seemingly sent to the players themselves.

PCGamesN has a good write-up of proceedings, but a few more details have come to light since publication. While the developer of LMAOBOX apparently stated that they would now quit the project and make the source code public, a moderator of this Reddit thread reckons that post was made by someone else, and that the (fake) code provided was riddled with malware. Others have disputed claims that the bans are backdated to anyone who has used LMAOBOX in the previous two years, suggesting it has only hit players who have used it in the last two weeks instead.

Either way, this is surely good news for anyone who plays TF2 in the traditional, non-cheaty manner. (Ta, mxdwm.com)
